"Being someone who is always looking at expanding my horizons, when the opportunity came up to do some volunteering alongside studying for my degree I didn’t think twice about joining RAG. From day one I have been involved in one way or another, even helping out at the Freshers' Fair at the beginning of term!
So why volunteer? Well, for me, it’s about helping those who are less fortunate than myself, and also about helping to raise awareness about what we do and RAG is just one of those ways of doing that.
When I first joined RAG all I knew was that they helped raise money for charity. Since then, I have found out exactly what we do, how we do it, who we help and have even managed to take on 2 projects which help our charities by raising money through generous donations.
In addition to all this, I am now the Raids Co-ordinator for Bournemouth RAG which means I put together and organise all of our street collections as well as lead the Raid on the day.
So as you can see, it’s easy to get involved in volunteering – and it’s not all about RAG either. If taking part in a Raid, helping during RAG week or doing RAG related things isn’t really for you then there are also MAD days, as well as many other ways you can get yourself involved!
The beauty with volunteering is that there is no minimum with regards to time you have to put in – it’s up to you! You can volunteer all the time, once a week, once a month, even once a year, there’s no pressure because at the end of the day it’s about you as the volunteer and what you can give."
