Holly Marie Higgins
Second Year Multi-Media Journalism
“I’ve been involved with a variety of different RAG events including Swap-a-rama, Britpop and Children in Need. My favourite event was Swap-a-rama because it was a fun night where lots of people got involved to raise money for a good cause. I became involved in volunteering after previously volunteering with the Red Cross. I wanted to meet new people and take part in events where I had an excuse to make a fool out of myself for charity!
I’m the RAG Publicity Officer so I’m responsible for promoting RAG and overseeing the media side of things including filming events for Nerve TV. I aim to persuade people to get involved with RAG without making them feel forced or intimidated to join in.
Raising money for charity is a great experience and it’s really easy to get involved. It doesn’t matter how much or little a person does, everything helps. The best thing about writing for thehub and Nerve are the wide ranging volunteering topics I can write about.
If you want to join thehub newsletter team, then sign up on thehub website (www.the-hub.org.uk) and if you’re thinking about joining RAG, don’t hesitate!
The best things about volunteering are the amazing people you meet and the great confidence boost you get from it.
I think students can gain a lot from getting involved, it’s really rewarding. You get a real sense of achievement from helping other people.”
