Hannah Wright
4th Year Events Management
“I feel privileged to be nominated as a Volunteer of the Term as lots of people do their bit to help.
I’m currently on my placement year and have got more involved in volunteering whilst between jobs. I don’t want to work - can I volunteer for the rest of my life?!
I’ve always enjoyed helping people and I’m gaining new skills with each experience.
I arranged the RAG fete and sleepout for Student Volunteer Week and I’m really proud as the fete (including raffle) raised £144.91.
My most rewarding experience was organising the sleepout to raise money for the Salvation Army. It was something different and I like to try new things – I’m always looking for original fundraising ideas!
It was great because I was able to experience a taste of homelessness so I faced and understood the issue for myself.
My favourite volunteering events are the arty ones because I love being creative and doing my own thing.
I also enjoy the MAD conservation days – it saves you going to the gym!
As well as RAG and MAD days, I’m involved with Recycling Ronnie. It’s really rewarding because the children are so enthusiastic about learning.
I was one of the volunteers who went to Nigeria for 'thehub goes Global’ trip in June 2008. I helped the charity ‘IT Kids of Africa.’by teaching children IT skills and running a workshop about CVs and interviews for older young people.
Volunteering is an adventure, not only does it help those that need it, it also helps you personally.
Students should get stuck in - it looks good on your CV and gets you active making you feel alive.”
Hannah won 'Volunteer of the Year 2007/8' for all her dedication, passion and involvement.
