The conservation work at Studland Middle Beach turned out to be a really enjoyable and interesting day.  As well as having a laugh with some fantastic individuals we also learnt about the task at hand.

The purpose of the day was to clear the path and streams for the conservation of the water voles’ habitat.  There are many water voles that roam Middle Beach and as the wilderness gets too wild it suffocates the living environment.  Therefore it was our job to help the little fellows out and give them a more comforting and presentable home.   There are also other rare species in the area, some that are not found in many other parts of the country, so conservation helps care for these animals that are so often over-looked.

Volunteering in tasks like this is very rewarding, knowing that you are making a difference.  If you have nothing else to do, not only does it look good on your CV and helps the environment, but it’s also a great way to pass the time, socialise and get some fresh air.  Conservation work is also a great alternative to the gym and at no cost!  The whole group was so enthusiastic and once we started we just didn’t want to stop.  Why pay for a hobby when you can volunteer for free!
