HELP RECYCLING RONNIE!

IS RECYCLING IMPORTANT TO YOU?

ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING?

DO YOU LIKE CHILDREN?

If so, then we need YOU!!!

The Students' Union runs a fun, informative and interactive workshop programme for primary schools, designed to raise awareness among young children about how they can help protect the environment through the help of “Recycling Ronnie”.

The workshops use an interactive presentation to provide children with the basic facts they need to know about the dangers of not recycling, and what they can do to help the environment. This is broken up with an activity in which the children sort items on their table into recycling and non recycling bins as practice for the future. The children are also introduced to the concept of the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)

Children are encouraged to participate in question and answer sessions involving what can be recycled from “Ronnie’s Bedroom Box” and also learn interesting facts such as how 25 plastic bottles can be recycled to make one woollen fleece! They also get to handle some unusual items made from recycled materials.

At the end of the workshop the children are given goody bags which include recycled items such as pens and rulers and the chance to enter a competition to win a prize.

We are now looking for volunteers to join the "Recycling Ronnie" team for 2009-10 and help deliver the workshop in local schools.

If you would like to find out more about the programme and how you can get involved - please email Sarah Harrison on sharrison@bournemouth.ac.uk. or apply for the Recycling Ronnie workshop programme on thehub.
