Run 10k is now open for entries at www.run10k.org/local and due to popular demand in the area, the event will come for the first time ever to Bournemouth on 19th October 2008.
Christina Tomlinson, Run 10k organiser for Bournemouth said: “Cancer affects so many people and joining the Bournemouth 10k is a great way to support them by raising money for Cancer Research UK’s work to find new ways of treating, curing and preventing the disease.”
Run 10k for Cancer Research UK , supported by Tesco, is a series of 41 events held in stunning and unique locations throughout the UK this autumn. This year Cancer Research UK is hoping that 50,000 men and women will come together to raise just over £5 million to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer.
The brand new Bournemouth 10k event will see 1000 people taking part to raise more than £55,000. Starting and finishing at Bournemouth ’s pier approach, the 10k course heads along the stunning seafront. Bournemouth ’s various attractions and points of interest will make for a great day out for the whole family.
Cancer Research UK is funding a major clinical trial called COIN, comparing two new treatment options for people with advanced bowel cancer. The researchers are recruiting patients in Bournemouth for the trial.
Christina Tomlinson added: “I hope that the people of Poole and Bournemouth rise to the challenge of taking part in Run 10k. It is the perfect opportunity to get into the great outdoors and raise money to help beat cancer. We need local people to take part and raise money to help us continue our life-saving work. This is why we’re urging people in Poole and Bournemouth to come and join us.
“Running 10k is an achievable challenge for everyone with some training. Why don’t you challenge your friends and family to take part with you?”
